What does it take to be successful as a team? Most of us say we need to work as a team and achieve common goals because teamwork is essential in an organization to work. However often times in teamwork individual goals don’t align with team goals. Teamwork generates conflicts. People have different ideas and they wish to do things differently. There are ways to overcome these to successfully meet our goals.
Roles and objectives have to be clearly defined
Every one should have a specific contribution to the team. We use each strength and weaknesses to create an action plan to achieve the set up goal. Work load should properly be distributed to your team players because if the distribution is not balanced conflict may arise. Focus on the strengths of your team player. Like in a machine one part of it missing the machine will not properly function and results will not be the expected outcome.
Team members share clarity of purpose
Organizations thrive when they are clear about what needs to get done, who needs to do it, and how it should get done. With clarity, everyone can pull together for a common cause. Without clarity there is wasted effort and even chaos. Clarity of purpose is vital for the achievement of success and for attaining the desired goal.Team goal must be specific and clear, and should not be vague. Have a clear sense of what you want your team to stand for and accomplish. Communicate the vision regularly. Ensure that goals and decisions are consistent with this vision. Remind your team that decisions and actions need to be consistent with the vision.
Balancing individual and team recognition
This can be sticky though. Excessive focus on individual performance can undermine teamwork and create a competitive environment. On the other hand, only rewarding teams can cause your stars to become demoralized, especially if they feel like they are carrying the team. The trick is to recognize both team and individual performance, while encouraging a cooperative culture.
